Organizers say this was the biggest local Juneteenth Festival yet. Juneteenth also holds a lot more significance this year because this is the first festival in Tucson after Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday last year.
Mt. Lemmon is just about 40 miles from Tucson and it’s typically about 30 degrees cooler than what we see in town. The businesses up on Mt. Lemmon were packed this week with Tucsonans looking for a nearby getaway from the heat.
The Tucson Police Department partnered with Banner-University Medical Center Tucson to raise awareness and hand out reflective backpacks in the hopes of reducing the amount of pedestrians getting hit by vehicles throughout Tucson.
And as we pause to remember those brave men and women, a local non-profit hopes you’ll also take time to help our hurting veterans. Right now, there are thousands of veterans on the street without homes.
