TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Tucson Police Department responded to a crash on Thursday, March 30 at the intersection of S. Alvernon Way and E. Valencia Rd.
TPD said the rider of the motorcycle died at the scene and was identified as 32-year-old Jonathan Michael Gates.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Gates was traveling south when the pickup made a left turn west causing the motorcycle to hit the passenger side of a truck.
Tucson police identified the pickup driver as a 59-year-old male who cooperated with the investigation.
An officer from the Impaired Driver Enforcement Unit responded to the investigation and determined the driver of the Ford was not impaired by alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
TPD said the major contributing factor of the crash was the failure to yield while making a left turn. The driver was cited and released for a moving violation resulting in injury/death.
