Below is a list of traffic projects around southern Arizona. Weather-related road closures in Pima County can be seen HERE.

Pontatoc Road from Sunrise Drive to Skyline Drive: Feb. 3-7

Crews will mill and pave Pontatoc Road from Sunrise Drive to Skyline Drive Friday through Tuesday, Feb. 3-7. Work hours are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The work will consist of setting traffic control, milling and repaving, and temporary striping will follow.  Thermo striping is scheduled for a later date.

Flaggers will direct traffic movements through the construction zone. Turn movements within the work zone may be restricted during paving operations. Drivers may encounter minor delays and lane closures.

I-10 between Ajo and Alvernon ways: Through Feb. 3

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following overnight ramp closures and lane restrictions in Tucson because of the I-10 Ajo Way to Milepost 272 pavement rehabilitation project:

  • Eastbound and westbound I-10 will be reduced to a single lane between Ajo Way and Alvernon Way from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Feb. 3, for guardrail work.
  • The westbound off-ramp at exit 264 (Irvington Road/Palo Verde Road) will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1.
  • A 14-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place and speed limits will be reduced to 45 mph while work is occurring.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time.

Fort Lowell Road and Houghton Road intersection: Feb. 6-May 1

Crews will begin the Fort Lowell Road and Houghton Road intersection alignment project Feb. 6.

The project includes widening a half-mile of Houghton Road to add turn lanes and rebuilding 450 feet of Fort Lowell Road to realign the roadway. Days and hours of work will be Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The project is expected to be completed by May 1.

Two lanes of traffic will be open. Message boards will be on-site. Minor delays may occur during this work.

Campbell Avenue from Skyline Drive to north of River Road and River Road from Camino Luz to east of Campana Drive: Through Feb. 10

Crews will mill and pave Campbell Avenue from Skyline Drive to north of River Road and River Road from Camino Luz to east of Campana Drive on Monday, Jan. 30, through Feb. 10, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The work will consist of setting traffic control, milling and repaving, and temporary striping will follow. Thermo striping is scheduled for a later date.

Flaggers will direct, monitor and control traffic through the construction zone. Drivers may experience minor delays during this work, and turn movements within the work zone may be restricted.

Thornydale Road at Cañada del Oro Wash: Through Feb. 3

The town of Marana will be performing median work on Thornydale Road at the Cañada del Oro Wash.

Both northbound and southbound inside lanes will be affected. Traffic will be restricted due to single-lane closures.

Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3.

Limberlost Road at Homestead Avenue: Through Feb. 3

Crews will repair asphalt damage on Limberlost Road at Homestead Avenue.

Work is scheduled for 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Jan. 23 to Feb. 3.

Work will consist of removing and repairing damaged asphalt due to recent weather events. Traffic will be reduced to one lane of travel.

Flaggers will direct and monitor traffic through the work zone area. Drivers can expect minor delays.

SR 77/Oracle Road: Through late 2023

The Arizona Department of Transportation is paving four miles of State Route 77/Oracle Road with plans to finish by late 2023.

The work will take place on the southern end of the project, with paving operations on Miracle Mile between Interstate 10 and Oracle Road and on Oracle Road from Miracle Mile to River Road.

Most of the work will occur between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

During work hours, drivers can expect large vehicles and equipment on the roadway, uneven pavement and reduced speed limits. One lane of travel will remain open during pavement operations.

The new pavement is one of many improvements planned as part of a two-year, $34 million project to improve the highway between Interstate 10 and Oracle Road, as well as on Oracle Road from Miracle Mile to Calle Concordia.

Drivers should expect some daytime lane restrictions and delays throughout the project. ADOT will maintain access to the roughly 1,100 businesses in the corridor.

Houghton Road: Through early 2023

Construction crews are working on a roadway improvement project on South Houghton Road from the I-10 interchange to Andrada Polytechnic High School, 12960 S. Houghton Road.

Project Scope

Improvements include widening of South Houghton Road from a two-lane roadway to a divided four-lane roadway, a separated multi-use path that will connect to the loop, and drainage and intersection improvements. The project is expected to be completed early 2023.

Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. Traffic control changes and speed reductions will occur as work progresses.

Crack Seal treatment

Crews will perform crack seal work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, through Feb. 10 at the following locations:

  • Mount Lemmon Short Road.
  • Soldier Trail from Mount Lemmon Short Road to Fort Lowell Road.
  • Fort Lowell Road from Soldier Trail to Houghton Road.
  • Swan Road from Sunrise Drive to the Rillito Creek.

The work will consist of setting traffic control and crack seal work.

Flaggers will be on site to direct, monitor and control traffic movements through the construction zone. Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. Minor delays and lane closures may occur during this work.

Crews will repair sewers at the following locations:

Crews will perform miscellaneous sewer repairs around Drexel Manor Stravenue, including Felix Boulevard to the north, Drexel Road to the east and Benson Highway to the south. There will be small detours set up, but traffic will not be interrupted.
